Steven Weisbaum   | Attorney

SteveWeisbaum.jpgMy approach to the practice of law comes from a strong background in litigation and an understanding of the importance of approaching legal disputes with an eye toward problem solving.  When I began representing families of separation and divorce, I was struck by the destructive nature of litigation on families in conflict. Separation and divorce place an enormous emotional and financial strain on a family and communications between couples can become destructive and hurtful, or break down altogether.  Litigation often serves to fuel and escalate the conflict between separating couples at a time when their ability to cope with the emotional and financial stresses arising from the break up is already compromised.

Managing conflict and emotion through the collaborative process allows the parties to preserve relationships and marital assets, and to arrive at solutions that could never be obtained through litigation.

I have been working to promote the use of collaborative practice since attending my first advanced training in collaborative practice in 2006.  I served as President of Collaborative Dispute Resolution Professionals, a Montgomery County practice group of more than 75 collaboratively trained professionals, from 2010 to 2011. I am currently serving as President-elect of the Maryland Collaborative Practice Council, a state-wide group promoting the use and growth of collaborative practice throughout the State of Maryland.

I would welcome the opportunity to meet with you if you are struggling with separation or divorce. Learn more about the services I can provide by calling me at 301-279-0977 or by visiting my website at www.weisbaumlaw.com.
